Alexander Gordon Higgins was also known by his nickname of
Hurricane Higgins, He brought the game of snooker to a wider audience and
contributed to its peak in popularity. He won 20 titles; he also won the Masters
twice in 1978 and 1981 beating Cliff Thorburn and Terry Griffiths. Steve Davis
made a documentary about the sport; he described Higgins as the “one true
genius that snooker produced”. He was Northern Irish and he died on 24 July
2010. Jimmy White was his doubles partner and Ray Reardon played against him.
